January 24th, 2007 - Update from Nina

Hey everyone, I’m so sorry it’s taken me so long to update our website, seems I’ve been much busier than usual with my job and traveling about…but we’re all alive and well, and the Springducks club is still growing and going strong!

Our monthly social has been left in good hands with Tracey and Warren Gamley who continue to host our socials on the second Saturday evening of each month, at the Cornelius Pass Roadhouse in Hillsboro. This location has actually turned out well for us as they are flexible in the amount of people coming and the summer atmosphere is just brilliant, and very children-friendly. If you have not attended yet, please do, you’ll be pleasantly surprised! You can find all the details and directions on this web site.

So to recap for 2006:

Our annual SA Picnic went very well again, and this year we decided to have this event the weekend prior to Labor Day. So please mark you calendars that the 2007 South African picnic will be held Sunday August 26th, 2007, which is the weekend prior to Labor Day. We will still be at the Willamette Park in West Linn. All details will be on the website.

We had a winter lamb braai on April 8, 2006 in Oregon City that was very well attended! Special thanks to Andre Meyer for the donation of the lamb (major yummy) and to Bobby Keet for providing the gas BBQ. Thanks again to Leslie Furguson, Warren and Tracey for their help. We may or may or may not have another winter braai this year, again in April. We’ll need more volunteers and to speak with Andre’ about the lamb again, but we’ll keep you posted. Renting the hall for this event is expensive, so we really need quite a turn out to break even. Let us know if you’d like to do this again, you can email me ninabuckley@msn.com or reply directly to this email if you are interested in volunteering or attending this event.

A special thanks also go to Gene and Annelize van der Walt, who hosted the November social at their farm in Oregon City. It was a great evening, and was well attended. Gene and Annelize graciously gave us a tour of their stables, a truly fantastic and interesting experience! Thanks again for your hospitality, Gene and Annelize!

I think all in all we’ve had a wonderful year, and I can say that, judging by all the new faces we see almost every month. We must be doing something right; and they keep coming back, yeh! Cheers to all of you and to a bright and successful New 2007. And for those of you who consistently volunteer with little or no reward, my warmest and deepest gratitude and thanks.

Can’t wait to see all of you throughout the New Year.

November 30th, 2005 - Update from Nina

Well, fall is finally upon us and closes a fantastic summer for the Springducks Club! This summer we’ve finished our website, launched our monthly socials, spent a great weekend camping and had a terrific turn out to the annual picnic! What more could a President ask for?

I know I thanked our volunteers at the picnic, but I’d like to acknowledge them all again on the website. So once again, thank you all so much for your generous help and effort, I would have been lost without you. If this club grows one day to 2000 members it will be all because of you;

Warren and Tracey Gamley – Monthly Social, Website guru’s, trivia masters, and always pitching in! Did I mention the awesome sausage and cream-puffs?

Steve and Kathy Rautenbach – Summer camping trip. Organized the reservations, brought tons of goodies, and provided excellent company!

Steve Dunay – Summer picnic. Thanks for doing all the hauling for this event, and for your generous donation of the BBQ!

Edward and Christina Buckley – Summer picnic. For your very generous donation of the prizes for this event, we are sorry we missed you this year!

Leslie Furguson and friend Kelly – Summer Picnic. Thanks for all your set-up and tear-down help, and for your donation of the brunch prize!

Bobby Keet – Summer Picnic, biltong sales.

In closing, the December social at Cornelius Pass Roadhouse has been cancelled. The events will resume in the new year.

We will also still be having our winter event in February or March, 2006 (remember the lamb on the spit?); I’ll keep you all posted on that as the details become known to me.

Well that’s all I can think of for now! Have a wonderful fall, and a warm and loving holiday season!

Ta,
Nina
